So, let me start by saying that I’m going through a major Roseanne phase right now. Maybe it’s because I’m from the Midwest, maybe it’s because I grew up in similar circumstances (plastic cereal bowls, I know ye well), or maybe it’s just because Roseanne is a sassy queen extraordinaire, but I’m identifying with this show like never before. I vaguely remember watching it when it was on television, but I was much too young to actually savor any of the themes: demeaning jobs, domestic abuse, unruly kids, barely getting by, etc. There’s something very timeless and poignant about the topics and lives the characters lead, and that makes it all the more addictive.
The many erstwhile pleated pants and illustrated sweatshirts of television yore have resulted in my new favorite waste of time, Roseanne-inspired fashion blog Third and Deleware (aptly subtitled, “Fashion highlights from every single episode of Roseanne”). The snarky commentary and endless wardrobe catalog is the ideal complement to a Roseanne marathon (while eating pork rinds, natch). I plan to utilize the blog for future thrift store reconnaissance missions. Leopard cat suit, you’re on my list!
A final note: I don’t know how or when the recent Roseanne renaissance started (’90s revival, I’m looking at you), but I’m totally in favor of everyone wearing those eponymous rooster shirts, putting a granny square afghan over the back of the couch and reveling in non-ironic wood paneling. (I am dead serious.) Who wants to watch some Roseanne with me?

This is AMAZING.
When I was a kid, my mom said I wasn’t allowed to watch Rosanne, but I would make sure to catch it at friends’ houses any chance I could. We cannot forget Darlene’s amazing style, long live grunge!!
I totally agree! There is just something about Roseanne that resonates. Although, I do remember vividly watching these the first time around

The first time I ever saw a granny blanket was on Rosanne. I think that sparked me to learn how to crochet!
My coworkers and I were just recently dying over this blog! And oh god, you had me at plastic cereal bowls, Alison. Watching Roseanne is like looking at a glimpse of my white trash childhood, only my mom wasn’t as sassy/hilarious as Roseanne. I find the wikipedia page for all of the Roseanne characters incredibly informative: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Roseanne_characters takes me back.
If I had a teleporter…I’d be on the couch with ya (though replace pork rinds with cheeto-s)
Ha! Oh my goodness, this is amazing! I totally know what you mean about re-watching Roseanne as an adult, so much more depth than I realised.
Also, I definitely had a hooded plaid shirt and loved it to death.
Ahaha, I’ve been following that blog for awhile now… & I’ve especially been enjoying some of Darlene’s fashion choices. Roseanne was such a unique show. Awhile ago (months ago? years ago?) I was reading some magazine (Rolling Stone? Entertainment Weekly?) and they had a huge article interviewing all the people from Roseanne about the making of the show, & such.. When I was younger I never realized what a turbulent behind-the-scenes story there was. It was mega-interesting… now I want to go see if I still have the article laying about.
oh god. can i play? roseanne is my idol. the one part when jackie is reading the paper out loud to rosie. “woman stabs husband 37 times…” & rosie goes “i admire her restraint” HAHA! she KILLS me. omg, & becky? jesus. i could SLAP her. “MOTHERRRRRR” & i wish i was darlene. i could go on. i have seasons 1 though 5 & i think i’m going to pop a disc in right now.
AHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I LOVE Roseanne. I watched this all the time when it was on. I hadn’t seen it in forever until last night, actually! I watched the whole thing and remembered every bit about the episode. I think the show was great until they won the lottery- after that it went downhill. lol
Well, the granny square afghans are definitely back, and I for one like cereal out of plastic bowl. Roseanne was one of the all-time great sitcoms. I didn’t buy into the replacement Becky though.
I just went through a total Roseanne phase myself. I love, loved the show back in the day and recently got readdicted and watched the entire series via youtube! Its so for real, I love it!
My roommates and I recently netflixed the first 5 or so seasons of Roseanne. We got totally hooked and watched it together nearly every night over the summer. We only stopped because our lease ran out! I totally agree, there is something just right about Roseanne. Now, could you do a fashion post about Dr. Quinn, pretty please?
I LOVE ROSEANNE!!!
