Cabinets of Curiosity

Posted by – February 26, 2010

I’ve been working on the display of my curio cabinet for quite some time. It’s currently filled with doll heads, skulls, bits of fur, tintypes and tiny plush mice, and it pleases me to no end. However, my little vignettes pale in comparison to Maissa Toulet’s many thematically organized collections of reliquaries and tiny bits in austere glass cases (and that studio…it doesn’t even look quite real!). I’d be hard pressed to choose a favorite, but I’m leaning toward the blue case with sheep, cotton clouds, hand iconography and wigged out dudes. (Or the teeth case. The tiny teeth “leaves” kill me.) Which display does it for you?

It’s between the sheep case and the bird case for me, though I think I’m leaning more towards wool than feathers! You would LOVE Paxton Gate here in San Francisco: http://www.paxtongate.com/default.aspx

These are amazing! I’m partial to the sheep/clouds one, but honestly I think the best part is that studio!

Wow. I want all of them! And I wouldn’t mind moving in, after seeing the first picture either.
My favorites are the black and white one with the rats followed closely by the last one with the ducks!

all of them, how could you choose? collections of anything are to die for. if i had to, i’d probably say the one with the mice, trees, egg/mousehead… mostly because i love the mouse with the tennis racket(?) head. thanks for sharing these awesome collections! i can’t get enough!
