I swear, plants do well if you look at them, breath on them, and touch them now and then.

i love photographs of nature in such fine detail such as these
i think the key to a green thumb is "intelligent neglect"
over loving, too much sun, over watering and pets who just won't leave the green things alone are usually the culprits

Wow, incredible images. I was a horticulturist for a couple years... and I've probably killed more plants than anyone I know. I think people with green thumbs are just those who kill things and keep on trying. There is something valuable to be learned with every casualty.

I once killed a jade plant by over watering it. They prefer a sunny window, but will tolerate a little shade. Does your pot have a drainage hole in the bottom? Jade plants don't like to have wet feet. I do have one growing in a pot with no hole, but I put 3" of rocks in the bottom for drainage, and I only water it literally about once a month. Oh, and you can propagate new plants from a single leaf... just pull one off, sit it out to dry for about a week, and then stick it (stem side down) in soil. It will eventually begin to grow new tiny roots. Its good to try at least 5 at a time since some leaves just turn into duds. This is an incredibly slow (but fascinating) way to grow a new plant.

I'm very good at not taking care of plants. I've had an african violet (which I've become convinced is the most resilient plant in existence) for four years, and for about a year I completely forgot to water it. Somehow it's still alive and I've no idea how. If your having trouble with the Jade plant, try an african violet :)

Hi! Jade plants are killable, believe me. It seems like they do better though if they get a lot of bright sunlight. They don't need to much water either, on account of the fact they're succulents - if you over water them sometimes they get root-rot and fall over. I'd say water once every two weeks. And if the edges of the leaves turn red, that's a good thing, it means they're getting plenty of sun.
