"Some of the diaries are quite sad to read, knowing the writer’s fate before they do"

This is so true. I work at the University of Nebraska digitizing 19th/early 20th century newspapers. It's especially hard to read news leading up to WWI, WWII, etc. when you already know what's going to happen.

These are AMAZING, especially the handwriting. I'm even more in love with leather books now. We recently found an unused leather journal which I'm afraid to write anything in and I also have an old leather school case with childrens signatures all over them (Betty, Archie and more 50s names).

I can't wait to see more!

This is so wonderful; thank you for sharing. In my "real life," I'm a professor and historian. In my dissertation--and later the book that came from it--I went through hundreds of private diaries and letters of 19th and early 20th century British women who were traveling or living in 'the Holy Land.' The quest for diaries has taken me to scores of physical archives in several countries, and reading their private thoughts and correspondence is fascinating, heartbreaking, sometime enraging, and always a bit uncomfortably voyeuristic. Now that so many archives are coming online, it's wonderful that even more people get to discover these kinds of documents. I love it when history comes alive! Thanks for sharing this resource!

Wow Alison! This is amazing. It's so great you dug deep and presented an in depth look into Linnie's life. Her handwriting is gorgeous! And the little doodles. Love it!! Sometimes I hurry though the archives, it's good to take a nice long look and read through in one idea or image.
