Masonic Beauty

Freemasonry is so fascinating. The symbolism, the historic beginnings, the handshakes — not to mention the secretive nature of the group — make for a regular investigative wormhole. This print, found by Erie Basin and titled “From Jerusalem to Jericho,” is circa 1890. Notice the “Friendship, Love, Truth” scroll, the all-seeing eye (a recurring motif) and references to “the Golden Rule.” The moon and stars amidst the clouds is my favorite element.

Any recommendations for interesting Freemasonry books? I’d love to hear it.

Man, I wish I had a good book to recommend… I’ve been really wanting to read one myself! I’ve read a lot online but I never really soak up the info the same was as when I’m reading a book. I’ll have to check back here for some recommendations. I LOVE this painting. I would cover my house in secret society stuff if I could, but so much of it is too expensive!

SO expensive! I wanted this so badly but couldn’t afford it. I’m constantly on the lookout on eBay! We need to find some books and confer.

My grampa was a mason. That’s all I know. Very secretive thing. I did see a documentary on them once though. Public television. Shouldn’t be too hard to find. Or check the library! I’m always pushing the library. Love that place.

“The Secret History of the World” by Jonatha Black

    - It traces the history of the secret societies and their philosophy. And it includes a bibliography in the back. Highly recomendable if you’re interested in freemasonry, esoteric knowledge and mysticism.

  4. the men in my family are masons and I think it’s really fascinating. My grandmother was an Eastern Star which is like the female version. I’ve thought about my joining an Eastern Star group. I want to learn secrets!
